Well, it’s public information now. I’m taking steps to go on an 8-month mission trip to Cebu, Philipines.
I’ve sent in my resignation letter. I’ve bought my how-to-speak-cebuano handbook. Next week, I can buy my plane ticket. I’ll be leaving around July 24th and coming back sometime at the end of March 2014. There are a few loose ends that need tying up and some spiritual and mental preparation to be done, which I will be doing in the next two and a half months.
If this is coming as a surprise to you, then I apologize. I’ve been trying to discern this quietly in order to hear God speak to my heart. I’ve been discerning going on a long-term mission with my spiritual guide (and friend) for years. I’ve tried doing one before, and it didn’t work out. And now, it seems that God is calling me to serve in Cebu alongside the Apostolic Sisters of St. John, (my favorite religious order).
So there it is. Please pray for me. Okay, I’m not even gonna hold back—don’t just pray for me, I’m asking you to fast for me. Please offer up some sacrifices for me. And not just for me, but for the sisters and the Filipinos who have to deal with me.
I’ll be posting details here every couple days or so, and hopefully I will update while I’m there.
